Exceptional Leadership, 16 Competencies for Healthcare Executives (Healthcare Administration Press, 2014)

I was writing a book chapter today about “Helping New Physician Leaders Succeed” and it reminded me of one of the best leadership books I’ve ever read. It’s titled, Exceptional Leadership, 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Executives.  It’s written by Carson Dye and Andrew Garman and the second edition was just released.

All of us must master the soft skills, and the authors grouped them into four common sense categories: Well-Cultivated Self-Awareness, Compelling Vision, A Real Way With People, and Masterful Execution. There is also a new chapter for physician leaders which has some provocative thoughts included.

Wherever you are in your career path, this will be very helpful and I highly recommend it. Read it, do the exercises, create your personal development plan and you’ll be rewarded with even greater success.

By the way, Carson Dye is a best selling author, senior partner at Witt Kieffer, and a TWO TIME recipient of the  James A. Hamilton Book of the Year Award by ACHE. This is Carson’s 10th book on healthcare leadership.
